Measuring Narrative With Water

Between 1920 and 1922, Knud Heckscher, Sirah Foighel Brutmann’s great-grandfather, travelled from Copenhagen to Bangkok and back over water. During these two years, he meticulously recorded his daily life in a series of 107 letters and a collection of black-and-white pictures. They reveal Knud’s complex personality and the nauseating environment he was navigating at the time.

In 2020, Foighel Brutmann inherited these letters and pictures. While the pictures are projected, she performs excerpts from the letters in different languages, retellings, and accents. Efrat supports the images with electronic effects and acoustic sounds. Be taken on a journey back in time.
