Polyrhythmic Moroccan music on live electronic beats. In AJJIT, Khadija El Kharraz Alami demonstrates how music, rhythm, and movement can inspire a different kind of storytelling. Together with musician and DJ Reda Senhaji – aka Cheb Runner -, she delves into the polyrhythms of Moroccan music genres such as Ahwach, Gnaoua, and Chaabi. Through provocative poetry and night club vibes, they seek ways to explore their complex identity.
AJJIT celebrates, invites and incites dancing, exuberance, trance and rebellion. The performance shines light on the importance of coming together, commemoration, moving, music and the power of expressing emotions and sharing them. Showing and celebrating the beauty of a complex identity in many dimensions, is an attempt and a desire to make complexity tangible. The performance is an invitation to collectively breathe new life into our pre-capitalist bodies and to reflect on life and lost lives, and on the primal power of the female body.
